ROOM 14's 'BIG DAY OUT!"

Room 14 went out with a BANG! We had an exciting adventure on Tuesday 13th December to celebrate our hard work this year!
Deb organised a visit to a 'secret location'. We didn't know anything about it! she is good at keeping secrets!
We ended up at the top of a cliff at Mr Brian Hawkins home. We got to visit his amazing indoor model railway land! It was amazing! It took him about 3 years to build with a keen friend.

We sat and had some morning tea when GUESS WHAT!!!!!! Santa arrived on the back of a Harley Davidson Motorcycle!!! Rudolph was driving and Mother Christmas followed on her Harley Davidson Motorbike!
He gave us a HUGE surprise and gave us all a 'traffic light' ice block each!

We then drove into the Nelson Cathedral and took a look at the amazing Christmas tree display! One tree had 'edible' decorations!
We sung 'We wish you a Merry Christmas' in the choir stands, had lunch, then off to the movies!

We watched the animated movie of 'Arthur Christmas'.
A great movie! A must see for any family in the holidays!

Thanks Room 14 for a great day! You did 'the Terrace' PROUD with your manners and behaviour!
The amazing model train scene! All hand painted and create by Mr Brian Hawkins.
Just goes to show, you are never too old to play with toys!

He switched the trains on for us to watch. They went in through tunnels. It was awesome!

The girls thought it was pretty cool too!

Good buddies!

Rudolph and Santa arrived unannounced! We didn't know that Santa rode on a Harley Davidson Motorbike!

Mother Christmas helping Santa read out his special 'Good Kids' list!

Traffic Light Ice blocks from Santa!! YEAH!

Our 3 special visitors!

See ya Santa! Don't forget to visit our houses on Christmas Eve!

Here we are singing 'We wish you a Merry Christmas' in the choir stands at the Nelson Cathedral.
Deb made us all sing for our lunch!

MONEY! MONEY! MONEY!

Room 14 have been learning about money!
We have been learning.......
- To recognise features of our notes and coins
- To make different amounts using different combinations of notes and coins
- How to give change correctly

So.......... We decided to do the real thing! We have created a shop in our classroom.
It is called 'The Room 14 'Bits and Bobs' shop!
We don't really get to keep the things we buy, it's all just for practice during maths time and before school.

We all get turns at being the shopkeepers, pricers and we love doing the shopping!!
Here we are shopping up a storm!
We wish the money was real!

Shopping! Shopping! Shopping! Our Bits n Bobs shop doing a good trade!

These funny characters chose some rather outrageous items to buy!

Our new additions to the class! Robbie and Ewan were our celebrity shopkeepers today! They are very good at counting out money and giving the correct change!

OUR VERY OWN CHAMPION DOG HANDLER!

Can you recognise who this boy is? It's hard to tell who he is hiding under all those Ribbons and Trophies.

Patrick has a Bull Dog called 'Ripley'. His family took him to Christchurch to enter a Dog Show.
What a champion! As you can see they did very well!
You make us proud Pat!
Well done!

BULA VINAKA!

We are learning about 'Fiji' this term. Deb's Aunty Wendy went to Fiji in the school holidays to help provide medical care to people in a village in Fiji. She asked us if we would like to write letters to the school children, so we did! We popped in some surprises for them like stickers and balloons.
GUESS WHAT????  We have just received some letters back from them.
Come into our classroom and read the letters they sent! They are awesome!
Wendy is coming to our class next week to show us photos of her trip to Fiji!
We want to learn lots of things about Fiji!

Are there Crocodiles in Fiji?  Do they have poisonous snakes? What are their classrooms like? What foods do they eat? the list goes on! We will have fun this term!
Check out our photos of us reading our letters :)
This is a traditional, Flax woven mat that the people in Fiji gave to Wendy as a thank you gift. She has lent it to us for a while. It's beautiful! and its worth about $650 so we have to be super careful with it. Fijian people are so clever! They are so fast at weaving, one of these mats can be completed in one day! phew!

Here we are with the letters we received from children in Fiji!

We can't wait to write back to them! we are going to put together some special boxes to send to them.
We will also send them some photographs of us with our letters. We look forward to learning more about Fiji!

BONEY BAKING!

We have been learning about the human body this term.
This week we have been learning about our BONES!
We had fun baking our own bones using salt dough.
It was awesome to  have parents in the classroom to help!
Thanks Parents and helpers!
You could try this at home.......
Here is an easy recipe.

Ingredients:
4 Cups of Flour
1 Cup of Salt
1 1/2 Cups of hot tap water
2 teaspoons of vegetable oil (optional)
Instructions:
Combine the flour and salt in a mixing bowl,
Gradually add the water until the dough becomes elastic
Add the vegetable oil
If your dough is too sticky, add more flour.... too crumbly? add more water.
Once you've got the consistency that you can work with, bring on the fun!
Add some food colouring if you want fun colours!
Either air dry or bake at 180 degrees until hard or lightly brown. (Keep an eye on them)
You can paint your creations afterwards, then seal them with a clear varnish!
